Uncommon Kitchen Remodel with a Refurbished Home Entrance
The owners of this home were looking to redesign their kitchen to meet the needs of the husband, who was a gourmet cook and wine collector. It needed space for a wine cellar near the kitchen and more professional fixtures. The house entrance also needed some work.

This client was an avid wine collector, with the bulk of his collection in the basement of his home. This was a challenge because we had workers in and out of his basement to get to the electrical panel, to the plumbing, and make sure at the same time that nothing happened to the wine. To secure this, we put a deadbolt on the basement door so people couldn't enter unsupervised.

So we did build wine storage in the kitchen, which is large and holds over a thousand bottles of wine. That was basically for his everyday consumption, whereas the bulk of his wine was in the cellar downstairs. The client was such a purist on his wine that we installed two dishwashers-one for regular dishes and one strictly for washing his wine glasses without soap. Besides being the wine enthusiast, he's a gourmet cook also. So we gave him and his wife a much more professional kitchen with the Viking cook top and wok so they would really be able to cook.

On the front porch, we put a copper canopy over the front door. Previously the door was just coming apart because of no protection from the weather. So we did a half round canopy to mirror the shape of the door head and the brackets that are holding it up are grapevine wrought iron to have a little suggestion of the client's personal likes.

Besides the wine, the only other real challenge was their chocolate lab who was always there to greet everybody - all hundred pounds of him.
