Total Kitchen Remodel
The needs of this client were pretty obvious. They had been living with an ugly kitchen for a long time that was in need of help. The wall covering around the valance at the top was actually gift-wrapping paper that had been used for wallpaper. The kitchen needed to be completely redone, and, since the husband and wife both cook, they wanted a more open plan so the kitchen would be more functional.
Some projects have surprises and changes along the way. One of the pictures shows the breakfast room ceiling, which is a Sky Blue. That ceiling was 12x12 acoustical tile that we were supposed to remove and replace with drywall. When we removed it, we found the original bead board ceiling. We decided to take that surprise and just clean it up and paint it. It turned out to be a much nicer feature than the drywall would have been.
A challenge on this project was that it was in a historic district. We had to get approval from the historic commission to change the exterior of the house by adding another window above the second sink (and dual prep area).
The change here was pretty dramatic and the clients were very pleased with the result.
